Away We Go: Day 2-Wawona Packing

This afternoon, Barbara and I are touring Wawona Packing Company. Wawona was founded in 1948 and is still family owned and operated today. They farm is over 6000 acres, and packs over 4 million boxes annually. Fruits include yellow and white flesh peaches, yellow and white flesh nectarines, plums, pluots, apricots, mango nectarines (amazing), also pomegranates, and persimmons. In 2010 AWG purchased over $500,000 of fruit from Wawona and expect that dollar amount to grow in 2011. Wawona workers hand pick 23 lb. tubs at a time, where other growers pick 1000 lb tubs to ensure harvest at a higher maturity and also ensure uniform consistent flavor without bruising or staining of fruit. Their State of the Art packing facility is amazing. And their Zero Defect Tolerence Policy leads to impeccable and irresistible quality for YOU when you shop at Harter House Supermarkets!
